If your considering building one or multiple chickens houses and runs, you should learn what is required for regular maintenance. Once you put all that effort into building a chicken pen, you will want to maintain the coop regularly, otherwise it will collapse with time. Check the Door Regularly

Since you keep going in and out of the chicken coop to provide the feed and water, it must be checked and maintained regularly. If the latch of the door is getting loose or if there is some other problem with the door, make sure that you fix it soon. Else, there are chances that your chickens will escape from the coop.

When the problem with doors occurs every now and then, it’s time you should consider replacing the door or finding some secure latch for the door so that you can be sure that is bolted to the door properly.

Opening of the door which is convenient for one may not be convenient for the other so figure out what door works best for you.

Check Your Fence Regularly

Another important thing that has to be checked regularly is the structure of fencing. If the predators come often and try to enter in, then there are chances that the stability of the fence has been affected. This may sometimes call the need for rebuilding it.

Also, some fences just fall over after some time. Hence you must walk around frequently and check the various areas of the fence to make sure that it is standing still.

Check the Coop Feeders Regularly

Feeders in chicken coops are used regularly and hence they must be checked often. Sometimes the feeders may not be installed properly or may have some problems and this will cause discomfort to the chickens while eating or taking food. To avoid this, you may have to reinstall the feeder in case of any problem.

The feeder height is also an important factor that needs to be watched. Some chickens may find the height at which you placed the feeder fine, while some may find the height either too high or low. You must keep adjusting this to provide good comfort to the chickens.

Never neglect the maintenance of your chicken houses and runs. This will increases the lifespan of the coop eliminating the necessity of frequent replacement. Maintenance of mobile chicken coops is much easier since they can be moved wherever you wish. Planning the maintenance regularly into a weekly or monthly schedule can help the chicken pen remain stronger for a long time.
